B. Day Trips from Skeiding

Expect to travel distances up to forty kilometres between excursions, much of this on excellent dirt roads, which add to the atmosphere and spirit of the excursion.

• The Pont at Malagas on the Breede River - a delightful reminder of a slower, quieter time. It is the only working pont in South Africa. It is hand drawn and has been carrying people, vehicles and livestock every day since 1860.
• Witsand for whale watching. The highest concentration of Southern Right Whales on the Southern African coast can be found in the San Sebastian Bay at Witsand. Each year these majestic mammals come to our shores between June and late November to mate and calf. Witsand enjoy the lion's share of this visit owing to the bay being the prime nursery for the cow / calf pairs. It is not uncommon to see up to 90 cow / calf pairs in the bay. This peaceful coastal town is surrounded by tow natural phenomena - the Breede River estuary and the Indian Ocean.
• Groot Vadersbosch Nature Reserve is situated in the Langeberg, about 22 km northwest of Heidelberg, and comprises 250 ha of forest and wilderness area of 14000 ha. The indigenous forest is the most noteworthy in the Southern Cape and the largest remaining example in the Langeberg. The Bushbuck Trail (offers day walks varying from 2 to 10 km) windes through dense and leafy vegetation known as Knysna high forest and offers excellent bird watching opportunities (196 bird species have been recorded), while the wilderness area offers walks in pristine mountain fynbos.

C. Accommodation

Three well appointed en suite rooms, each with fire place, fridge, tea tray, honesty bar and home comforts. Two are Cape Dutch style cottages with sleeping couch for children. Children welcome.
